NVC International

Philippines

Letter from Amina Mambuay

I had my NVC training in Germany in 2007 and 2008 through the sponsorship of a certain organization. The first training I had was with Andreas Basu, Edelgard kopp, and with Art Burroughes. The second one in 2008 was with Robert Gonzales, Gina Lawrie, Wes Taylor, and Susan Skye and this was on Living the Energy of Needs. After my first training, I started promoting NVC here in the Philippines. Prior to my NVC training, I worked as a volunteer in the promotion of peace. I am passionate in working for peace because of the long history of conflicts we have here in Mindanao and until this time, no solution despite several peace initiatives done.

I had witnessed war and evacuation from our home and because of this, I do not want the future generation to experience what I have experienced. It is a very long story to tell how hard it is to live in the midst of divisions and conflict and to witness even at present the situation of internally displaced persons because of the ongoing war in some areas in Mindanao. I would usually visit evacuation centers and I feel very sad and hopeless seeing the situation of both children and adults alike starving because they do not have food to eat, no medicines, and other things needed. I know there are donations from International communities but would you believe that these would not reach the people because these are taken by people in authority and later on, we will just find out that these items are sold in the market.

Another one is peace is being discussed in big hotels and only a selected few are invited to discuss and share ideas about peace. I sometimes wonder, do these people discussing about peace had ever visited the grassroots level or have they ever tried to sleep in the evacuation centers and helped the internally displaced persons. I have many sentiments to share and these are only some.

I know working for peace is a long process and I am very thankful that I had my NVC training because I can give empathy both for others and to myself. My husband, though he had not have a formal training NVC except that we continually practice it at home as well as help me out in my trainings, is the one actually assisting me in my trainings. My three lovely daughters also help me so it is a family team work.

I love my work and so with my husband and children. We do not have stable jobs but with Divine Providence, we survive. I have all the energy when it comes to work for peace and NVC and I will continue to be in touch with you. I would like to express my gratitude for expressing your desire to try to help me out so I can go through with the schedule for the NVC for the Muslim group.

I send you love and prayers,
Amina

Nonviolent Communication in the Philippines

"Nonviolent Communication" (NVC) is a worldwide renowned method to resolve conflicts peacefully and to strengthen connection in all kinds of relationships. NVC has been developed by Marshall Rosenberg during the last 30 years. It is being implemented wherever people want to communicate with more clarity and a deeper sense of connection and of course in all kinds of conflicts, be it in families, in cooperations or between groups. If you want to read more on NVC please click on:

Amina Mambuay is one of the NVC Trainers who teach NVC worldwide; yet she is the only active NVC Trainer on the Philippines. There the  need for trainings for peaceful conflict resolution is enormous, since centuries old conflicts between religious groups and also political conflicts are conducted in sometimes very violent ways.

Accordingly Amina receives many requests to conduct NVC Trainings and 60 - 80 participants are not exeptional, when she does NVC workshops for teachers, young people, social workers and also for the police and the military.
